Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food, has recently reached a major milestone, with more than two million ‘Surprise Bags’ saved in Ireland since its launch in 2021.

The Too Good To Go app allows customers to purchase ‘Surprise Bags’ of surplus food from local businesses at a fraction of its normal retail price, while also preventing food waste.

Too Good To Go has rapidly expanded its presence across Ireland, partnering with a wide range of businesses from local bakeries and cafes to supermarkets and restaurants.

Partners

Partners include household names such as Aldi, Supervalu, Circle K, and Applegreen, alongside beloved local favourites like Chopped and James Whelan Butchers.

The two million Surprise Bag milestone comes as Chelsea Kerr has been named as Too Good To Go’s new managing director for the UK and Ireland.

Kerr brings deep experience from consumer tech giants like Uber and Amazon and will help make sustainable habits even more accessible for Irish shoppers.

Chelsea Kerr, managing director for UK and Ireland at Too Good To Go, said: “I’m thrilled to be stepping into the role of country director at such a landmark moment for our Irish community.

“Reaching over two million Surprise Bags sold in Ireland is an incredible testament to the Irish public’s commitment to sustainability.

“Saving surplus food has moved from a niche idea to a mainstream habit across the country.

“We now see thousands of Surprise Bags rescued every single day across Ireland, a clear sign that when fighting food waste is made simple and accessible, Irish people and businesses are ready to lead the way.

“It’s rare to find a forward-thinking tech business that is so clearly led by its values, and this role perfectly aligns my passion for technology with my belief in mission-driven growth.”

Alongside the two-million Surprise Bag milestone, Too Good To Go has officially launched in Tokyo, Japan.

This marks the app’s first entry into Asia, expanding its global footprint to 21 countries.

For Irish users, this means the same app they use at home works while traveling abroad.

Holidaymakers can rescue surplus meals in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain and now Tokyo, accessing authentic local cuisines for a third of the retail price.
