In a fantastic display of unwavering community support, the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund (IGBF) successfully organised its annual Fun Run at Leopardstown Racecourse on Saturday, 17 June.

The strategic shift to Leopardstown Racecourse allowed for greater flexibility, and maximized funds, directly benefiting the IGBF charity and its beneficiaries.

With a 5k and a 10k race, along with a kids race, the event attracted just under 1,000 runners of diverse skill levels. Regardless of the rain, the determined participants embraced the challenge, creating an encouraging atmosphere that was infectious and permeated the venue.

A day filled with triumph and resilience

Despite facing unpredictable weather conditions, the IGBF Fun Run was a shining testament to the indomitable spirit of its participants.

Seasoned athletes and enthusiastic newcomers alike embraced the opportunity to push their limits and  to make a lasting impact. Through their unwavering  commitment to a good cause, these remarkable individuals transformed a day of challenge into a day of joy and achievement, proving that nothing  could dampen their resolve to make a meaningful difference.

Spirit of healthy competition prevails

During  the IGBF Fun Run camaraderie and competition merged seamlessly, showcasing the best of both worlds. Emerging as corporate champions were the  purposeful team from Aldi, whose exceptional teamwork and unwavering determination secured their victory. Aldi’s triumph sets the stage for an exhilarating battle in the next edition of the Fun Run as they strive to defend their title in 2024.

A family affair: Uniting communities through charity

The IGBF Fun Run not only unites passionate individuals in pursuit of fitness, while supporting a good cause, but also nurtures a profound sense of togetherness and support within families. From young to old, participants of all ages came together, creating an incredible sight of parents running alongside their children, providing guidance and motivation every step of the way. This inclusive event has an enduring impact, as the shared enthusiasm and collective experiences of these families epitomize the IGBF’s dedication to strengthening bonds and fostering community resilience.

Gratitude to generous sponsors

The success of the IGBF Fun Run would not have been possible without the unwavering support and generosity of its valued sponsors. The IGBF extends its heartfelt thanks to Keeling’s, National Lottery, FMI and Yoplait for their ongoing commitment to this worthy cause and for making a significant difference in the lives of those in need.

The IGBF: A legacy of compassion and support

Established in the early 1960s, the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund has become a beacon of hope for those facing hardship in the retail industry and beyond. Throughout the years, the fund has provided invaluable assistance to employed, unemployed, and retired individuals who have encountered challenging circumstances due to health issues or the loss of loved ones. The IGBF’s unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering and extending a helping hand embodies the true spirit of humanity, and  the IGBF Fun Run is proud to contribute towards this legacy of compassion and support.

The fund would like to sincerely thank all the participants and supporters who made the day a resounding success. With the momentum of this year’s event, the IGBF is excited to announce that preparations for the IGBF Fun Run 2024 have already begun, and the aim is to build upon this year’s achievements and to make it an even more remarkable experience.
