The Volvo Ocean Race, which began on the 29th October 2011 in Alicante, Spain, is the largest global water sports event with the world’s sailing elite battling it out over nine months, navigating across four oceans and five continents.

Over 40,000 international visitors are expected to travel to Galway for the finish with an expected TV audience of three billion.

As wine and spirit sponsors, Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard will be represented by Jameson, Mumm champagne and Brancott wine. Other spirits from the IIDL Pernod Ricard family of brands available at the event will include Absolut vodka, Cork Dry Gin and Malibu rum.

Anna Malmhake, Chief Executive of Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, emphasised the importance of utilising the platform of the Volvo Ocean Race to create an environment conducive to connecting Irish businesses to the global market and in so doing, creating a legacy of on-going business relations long after the Volvo Ocean Race is over.

“It is a huge honour for Galway and Ireland to be chosen as the final destination and a real opportunity for Ireland to show to an international audience our capabilities and successes,” she said, “As the world’s fastest-growing international brand of whiskey Jameson is the perfect spirits sponsor of the festival.”
