Food retailer Iceland will open the doors to its newest Irish store in Roscommon Retail Park, Circular Road tomorrow. The store will bring 20 new jobs to Roscommon and is the first store in the county for the retailer, who announced earlier this year that by the end of 2023, all its own-brand products will be plastic free.

The new 11,500sq ft store features Iceland’s range of more than 2,000 branded fresh and frozen grocery products, including more than 500 products from more than 30 Irish suppliers. In addition, Iceland is the exclusive stockist of the popular Slimming World range in Ireland of which there are currently 40 products, with new lines being added in September.

“I’m delighted to welcome another store to the Iceland family in Ireland,” Ron Metcalfe, managing director of Iceland Ireland said of the new opening. “Roscommon is our 24th store to date so it’s an exciting time for the business as we continue with our expansion nationwide,” he added.

Candice Lee has been appointed Iceland Roscommon store manager. “I have worked with Iceland for the last 18 months and am delighted to now be appointed as manager for the new Roscommon store,” Lee said. “I’m looking forward to bringing the ‘Power of Frozen’ to Roscommon and meeting all of our new customers here in the coming days and weeks,” she added.

Iceland recently announced it would be the first supermarket retailer to remove palm oil from own label food with a total of 130 products being reformulated by the end of 2018, including the newest Mumbai street food selection.

Customers of the Roscommon store will also be able to sign up for the Iceland Bonus Card. This is Iceland’s savings card that rewards customers with €1 free for every €30 saved on to the card. Cardholders can spend this in any Iceland store whenever they choose.
