Men should not consume more than 17 units spread over a week (approximately 170g of alcohol), down from 21 units while women should not consume more than 11 units during this time, down from 14.

The advice forms part of Your Guide to Healthy Eating Using the Food Pyramid which was launched recently by the Minister for Health at what Drinks Industry Ireland understands to have been a press conference sparsely-attended by the media – possibly due to the Department of Health’s NUJ card-holders only rule…. (see Drinks Industry Ireland leader on page 4 of February-March 2012 issue).
