“Last year, the week of Arthur’s Day celebrations increased our volume of kegs by 10 and sales of Guinness have been consistently strong among the 18-40 age market. There was a great atmosphere all night on Arthur’s Day and we had between 150 growing to 500 people. We cannot wait for this years Arthur’s Day celebrations.”

With Arthur’s Day taking place for the third time, Helen Sheehan, Manager and Director of The Grand in Killarney could not have been clearer about the value of Arthur’s day to her business there last year.

Her sentiments were echoed by Castleisland Vintners Chairman Tom McCarthy of The Central Bar  who stated, “Arthur’s Day 2010 was a great success in Tom McCarthy’s. We branded the bar in the run-up to the event to raise awareness with our customers and our Guinness sales were up 100 per cent on any average Thursday. We are looking forward to joining in on this year’s celebrations!”

Neil Ronson, Guinness Customer Marketing Manager, explained, “Arthur’s Day has proven a massive hit with people throughout Ireland and indeed the globe”.

And it represents a fantastic opportunity for publicans around the country to secure extra midweek footfall by creating their own celebration to Arthur, showing off their pub offerings and giving their customers a reason to celebrate, he added.

And there’s no shortage of publicans prepared to bear out Neil Ronson’s words.

Joanne Griole of Mollys, Bweeng, stated, “Last year we were three times busier than an average Saturday night! We had a great night and my customers are keen to have an even bigger night this year.”

Due to its phenomenal success, this year there will be ticketed music hubs in four locations in Dublin, Cork, Belfast and Limerick, as well as a host of celebrations in pubs right across Ireland. Guinness is calling on publicans to get involved.

The Arthur’s Day festivities will commence with a worldwide ‘toast to Arthur’ in Ireland at exactly 17:59 on Thursday 22nd September and countries including Italy, Germany, Spain, Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore will all join in the celebrations to mark the philanthropic legacy of Arthur Guinness.
