Phil Tavey and Paul Maher from the Dublin beer importing company Fourcorners have been accredited after passing a viva examination with Beer Academy Chief Examiner Dr George Philliskirk.

It’s still less than a year since the Beer Academy announced its first Sommeliers and already there are 21 Beer Sommeliers around the world from Norway to Australia.

The Sommelier qualification has really caught the changing public attitude to beer, says Dr George Philiskirk. Nowadays beer-drinking is about quality not quantity – and people want to understand more about what they are drinking.

“Our Sommeliers are ideally placed to lead them on this road of beer discovery,” he says.
