Aldi Ireland has officially opened its new store in Mountbellew, Co. Galway, the latest step in the company’s dedicated West of Ireland expansion programme, which will see over €63 million invested and more than 140 new full-time jobs created across Connacht over the next two years.

This €63 million investment which Aldi says underlines its commitment to the region, has seen new Aldi stores in Ballina, Tuam and Mountbellew, with new stores to open in Athenry, Ballyhaunis, Monivea Rd, Galway City, along with store upgrades in Portumna, Clifden, Galway Retail Park and Ballinasloe, some of which are already complete.

The new Mountbellew store, located on College Road, is Aldi’s 11th store in Galway and will see the creation of 15 new permanent full-time jobs across management and store assistant roles. This brings the number of people employed by Aldi in the county up to 260.

The spacious new 1,315sqm store features Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh layout, characterised by wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings. There are 120 car park spaces available to Aldi shoppers, along with four electric vehicle chargers and 10 bike spaces.

The store has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. It is powered by 100% green electricity and has 90 square metres of solar panels on the roof. Aldi’s new Electronic Shelf Labels replace traditional paper price labels, meaning that stock or price changes can easily and quickly be communicated to customers.

The expansion programme in Connacht will see Aldi invest more than €63m in six new stores and create more than 140 full time jobs and 350 construction jobs.

“This new €7m store in Mountbellew is the latest step in that programme and I’m delighted to open our 11th Galway store and our 154th store in Ireland,” said Jolita Mazulyte, Aldi Mountbellew store manager.

“This new store, and the 15 new jobs created, will support our ambition to deliver value to the people of Galway at the locations most convenient to them.”

Aldi currently partners with 12 Irish food and drink producers across Co Galway and spent over €16 million with its Galway suppliers in 2021. .

“We were very encouraged by the response to our recruitment campaign locally, with a high level of applications received and processed,” Mazulyte added. “We are delighted to welcome our 15 new staff to the Mountbellew team and look forward to working together to deliver a great service and product offering to our local customers.”
