Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund (IGBF) recently hosted its annual Sports Legends Lunch, at the Round Room at the Mansion House, Dublin.

Over 300 delegates attended the event raising over €60,000 for the IGBF charity.

‘Sporting spirit’

The afternoon began with a vibrant drinks reception and entertainment courtesy of 7 Entertainment, setting the tone for a day filled with laughter, generosity and sporting spirit.

Guests enjoyed a gourmet lunch and had the opportunity to win exceptional raffle prizes, including a trip to Scotland to see Ireland versus Scotland, complete with flights and accommodation.

The event was expertly hosted by broadcasting legend Des Cahill, whose wit and warmth kept the energy high throughout.

Special guest speakers included Ian Woosnam, Niall Quinn, Bernard Dunne and Carla Ward, alongside surprise guest Conor Moore, who entertained guests with his much-loved comedy sketches.

Attendees generosity

The generosity of attendees and sponsors will help the IGBF continue its important work supporting members of the grocery industry who are facing hardship, the group noted.

Frances Higgins, chair of the IGBF, commented: “We are deeply grateful for the continued support from our industry colleagues and sponsors.

“Events like this not only raise vital funds but also bring our community together in a spirit of solidarity and celebration.”

Mark Hargadon, event organiser, shared Higgins sentiment and added: “It was our first year hosting the event in the Round Room at the Mansion House, and the venue provided exceptional food, service and facilities.

“I was delighted with how the event went, and its success is only possible because of the continued support shown by so many people across the industry.

“I am hugely grateful to everyone who supported the day in aid of the IGBF.”
