The collectables know-how of well-known retailer, Joe Sweeney, owner of Newscentre in Donaghmede Shopping Centre, has led to him collecting a new award.

Sweeney was named the Collectable Product Retailer of the Year at the NFRN Awards held at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London on Tuesday, 13 October 13. He received the award in recognition of the way he promotes trading cards and other collectable products.

The judges said: “Through a hands-on approach and by working closely with his customers, Joe has become known as the collectables king in his local area. Joe understands the value of stocking both the new and regular frequency products from Topps and giving them high visibility in his Dublin shop. As a result, Joe regularly outsells multiple stores. You could say that when it comes to collectables Joe is the Topps!”

This independent retailer is no stranger to success in the NFRN Awards. In 2010 his entire team of staff were named Employee of the Year and in 2013 Joe was named the NFRN Member of the Year.

The NFRN Awards, which are awarded annually by the National Federation of Retail Newsagents, recognise excellence in news and convenience retailing, rewarding those who have made an outstanding contribution to the sector.

The NFRN represents 15,000 independent convenience stores in the UK and ROI and Joe is currently secretary of the Dublin branch.
