CSNA updates tobacco margins and pricing
CSNA confirms revised tobacco RRPs from 26 February restoring retailer margins after Budget excise hike
13 February 2026
CSNA members will be aware that the October Budget increased the excise on all tobacco products by 50cent (VAT included) per 20 pack and pro rata.
This increase ordinarily creates a reduction in percentage margin on the products which, as you know, retailers are forbidden by law from selling at a price higher than that determined by the tobacco companies.
Five cent increase
On this occasion, JTI chose to increase the RRP by five cent which had the effort of providing a cushion to the margin decrease.
There will be a new retail price for all 20 packs and tobacco/cigar products from 26 February.
This increase will be 50 cent per 20 pack.
This will actually not only restore % margins to pre-Budget levels, but they will also actually effect an increase.
As is now normal, the 9 “big box” packs have not had an increase placed upon them and we await the restoration of these margins presently.
The new CSNA price list for all cigarettes and other tobacco products will be amended and available from 26 February.
