The event brings together first-time film-makers, established directors, producers and film-lovers of all ages. Film-makers have the opportunity to interact with industry professionals at workshops, panel discussions and screen talks, exploring the craft and business of filmmaking.

Schull has no cinema, so the festival explores alternatives with innovative use of an intranet network and wifi hotspots running the length of the village. Filmmakers, tourists and locals can access the submitted competition films locally on their laptops, iPads and smart phones, simply by logging-on. For four days Schull village itself becomes a cinema. Films will also be shown on a darkened bus, in a horse box, an old movie house and in many other strange and unusual locations throughout Schull.

Among the celebrities set to attend: Oscar-winning producer David Puttnam and former President at 20th Century Fox  Sandy Lieberson who’ll be interviewed by ex Director-General of the BBC Greg Dyke.

There will be programmes of short films from IFB, BFI, IMCINE, the Mexican Cinematography Institute and a selection of shorts from the Sapporo Film Festival in Japan.
Stephen Roche, one of two cyclists worldwide to win The Giro D’Italia, The Tour De France and the World Cycling Championships all in the same year, will help launch the  Festival’s 2011 programme next Wednesday the 13th of April at 6.30pm in the Bodega Bar in Cork City, where The Cycle Cinema, Ireland’s first human-powered cinema, will charge-up with the help of a human power station to provide the muscle for the show. Also present will be Maria Doyle-Kennedy and Gerry Stembridge as well as other personalities from the film industry.
