The annual Heineken Star Serve Awards returned to the home of Heineken Ireland, Cork city, where almost 1,200 bar staff gathered at the impressive Savoy Theatre to support over 200 competing perfect pint-pouring bartenders.
 
After a series of four regional heats over the past two months that hosted almost 3,000 supporters and over 400 candidates, five finalists were selected by a panel of specialists to compete in the overall final in the heart of Cork city. Michael outshone four of his pouring peers to be crowned overall champion and was selected to represent Ireland at the Global Star Serve Championships in the home of Heineken, Amsterdam, next month.
 
Michael wasn’t the only Cork hero however. Local Cork bars shone brightly on the night when The Blarney Castle Hotel and John O’Sullivans Bar picked up special awards for demonstrating Best Customer Service Experience in the industry while SoHo and Barry’s of Douglas Bar scooped the Best Star Serve Bar awards.
