Cork footballer and publican Larry Tompkins fined
Former footballer now Cork publican Larry Tompkins was prosecuted recently at Cork District Court for housing undeclared bottles of spirits bearing a British excise stamp from across the border.
25 November 2010
Customs & Excise Inspector Tom Farrell carried out a customs inspection — “on receipt of information” — on Larry Tompkins’ premises at Lavitt’s Quay, Cork, on May 28th last year and found a number of bottles of spirits there with the UK excise stamp scratched away.
The bar is owned by JBW Agencies which lists Larry Tompkins and his wife Orla as directors. Larry Tompkins admitted that he’d purchased €4,327-worth of alcohol across the border from North West Distributors.
Judge Leo Malone fined him €2,500.
