It was a sight to behold as a not-so-typical item of local transport for the good citizens of Havana whizzed by Closing Time’s eyes – a freight container on the back of a low-loader with ‘windows’ cut from the metal sides by welding torch from which passengers could gaze out on the Havanan countryside.

And now, the port of Bristol in the UK has emulated this contained feat in pub format with family brewer Hall & Woodhouse building an entire pub/restaurant using 28 recycled shipping containers in Bristol’s Portishead Marina.

According to Hall & Woodhouse Retail Director David Hoare, “With this location we have really pushed the boundaries to create a destination venue that is completely relevant to its setting”.

The £2.4 million 28-container premises reflects its dock-side environs and even has three private dining areas crafted from individual containers so that those booking can invite their friends out to dinner in a shipping container!
