The latest survey on consumer outlook has found a rise in confidence in the economy.

The findings from KBC Bank Ireland and the ESRI for June 2013 show people are less worried about jobs and the property market. The sunnier outlook is being attributed to the warmer weather we have experienced.

KBC Bank Ireland believes the increase should be seen as signalling some modest improvement in sentiment of late. A combination of economic factors seems to have prompted this change, it said, along with perhaps the exceptionally good weather during the survey period.

Austin Hughes of KBC commented: "Because the survey asks specific questions about the economy and financial conditions, the weather really shouldn’t matter to people". "But we did some statistical work and it suggested that when we have extremely hot sunshine, people tend to be a little more positive about the economy and about their own financial position."
