11 July 2025
According to a recent release from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), consumer prices rose by 1.8% in the 12 months to June 2025, slightly up from the 1.7% increase reported in May.
Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded an annual rise of 2.0%.
Notable growth
Key contributors to the annual increase were Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages, up 4.6%, and Recreation & Culture, which rose by 3.5%.
Notable price growth was seen in items such as beef, butter, and package holidays.
On the other hand, prices in Clothing & Footwear and Transport declined by 2.3% and 2.0% respectively, largely influenced by seasonal sales and reduced costs for airfares and fuel.
Month-on-month, consumer prices increased by 0.5% from May to June.
Recreation & Culture again showed the largest monthly rise (+3.6%), driven mainly by higher holiday costs, while Transport prices increased by 1.2%.
Clothing & Footwear and Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco posted the most significant monthly declines, at -0.5% and -0.4%, respectively.
In terms of average prices, staples such as butter, milk, and bread saw increases, while the cost of potatoes fell.
The CSO notes that these figures reflect CPI data, which includes mortgage interest, unlike the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).
Full breakdowns and comparisons are available on the CSO website.
