Childline has put together its first-ever pubs fundraising pack which contains all the hints and tips necessary to hold a successful fundraising event.
The Merrion Row pub was helping launch the Childline 2011 Pubs Pledge Appeal which is asking pubs, bars and nightclubs all over Ireland to pledge to raise €1,000 (or whatever they can) for Childline in 2011.
“Hundreds of pubs all over the country have held events for Childline in the past number of years,” explained Julie Stafford of ISPCC’s Childline, “Despite all odds we are continuing to see huge support out there for Childline. This year, as an extra support, we are offering participants the chance to meet with their local fundraiser to help them plan and run a successful event for Childline as we rely so much on these funds.”
In the past five years pubs, hotels and nightclubs have raised almost €500,000 for Childline, Ireland’s only 24/7 listening support service for children and young people (receiving over 17,000 calls, text and e-mails each week). It receives no government funding which means that the service relies wholly on the generosity and support of the Irish people.
Miriam Kenny of The Baggot Inn commented, “Childline is the ultimate local charity being there for every single child in Ireland so it just made sense for us to support them. We understand the pressure that Childline is under in these times so we decided to do our best to help and have a bit of craic in the meantime!".
Pubs, hotels and nightclubs can register for their free fundraising pack on www.ispcc.ie/fundraising or by calling 1850 50 40 50.
All participants taking part in the 2011 Childline Pubs Pledge will be taking part in a national fundraising appeal that will make a difference to the lives of children in both their local area and nationwide.
