Centra’s 2015 sales figures have been published. It was a very good year for the convenience retailer: the chain recorded sales of €1.54bn, underlining the brand’s position as market leader in the Ireland’s convenience sector. This represents a growth of 1.6% on the previous year for Centra, which currently has 460 stores across Ireland.

The past year has seen Centra reposition itself as a promoter of healthy lifestyles and eating well, through its Live Well initiative and heavy promotion of sales of fruit and veg snack alternatives.

Centra’s managing director Martin Kelleher said that he was delighted about another succesful year for the company. “With live well, we recognise the changing needs of our time-strapped customers,” Kelleher said, “who are looking for healthy and nutritious food on the go.

“We are delighted with the response we have had so far,” Kelleher said, “including a massive spike in demand for these types of products. We have sold almost 200,000 salad boxes, 1.4 tonnes of Quinoa and half a million pieces of fruit.”

The positive news for Centra comes along with the news that the company plans to spend €16m opening 16 new stores in 2016, resulting in 480 new jobs.
