Centra has launched its new own brand range of products in Ireland. The range, which includes over 900 products, is available across the network of over 460 stores and represents an €8 million investment in the brand. This is the biggest product launch in Centra’s history.

Centra says its own brand range is up to a third cheaper than the brand equivalent and has been independently tested to ensure quality. Thirteen lines from the existing range had won gold stars at the Great Taste Awards, while 110 out of the 150 suppliers are Irish.

Martin Kelleher, managing director, Centra, said: "A launch of this size and depth is unprecedented in this market but it is really needed. People are shopping more frequently and more local than ever before, in order to manage waste and travel expenses. Centra’s success, even in these difficult times, is proof of this. Consumers are turning to own label products to maintain, or in some cases reduce their weekly grocery spend, and as ever we want to deliver even more for our shoppers."

The range includes products such as fruit pots, yogurts, vegetables, pizza, dishwasher tablets and pet food. Some products will now bear QR codes which can be scanned by smartphones to pick up handy recipes to cook using the products bought. The modern essentials of packaging – Guideline Daily Amounts, nutritional value and calorific content – are also included where possible, along with cooking times on necessary products.
