Centra announces annual Big BBQ launch

Centra has once again launched its annual Childline Big BBQ, after the initiative raised €408,000 for the children's charity last year
11 June 2009
Ireland’s largest convenience group, Centra has officially launched its annual Childline Big BBQ, its second year getting involved with the initiative. The Centra Childline Big BBQ aims to raise funds for the charity throughout the summer months, encouraging Irish consumers to “get BBQ-ing” during June and July and raise money for a good cause.
The Childline Big BBQ raised €408,000 for the children’s charity in 2008, and this year Centra is once again asking consumers all over the country to register for their BBQ pack and host their own fundraising barbecues at home, at work or local sports club. Last year’s success came despite the wash-out weather, so this year’s sunny forecast has Centra retailers hoping to see even more people register in-store or online to host their fund-raising barbecues.
Last year’s success was also boosted by Centra retailers hosting their own barbecues in their local communities across the country and this June and July they will be hitting the grills once more to get people in the Big BBQ mood.
Commenting at the launch, Nicky Byrne of Westlife said: “On behalf of Westlife, we have long been supporters of Childline, and I am delighted to be here today to launch the Centra Childline Big BBQ which is such a worthwhile and enjoyable initiative.”
Childline is Ireland’s only multi-media listening service, providing support to children throughout the country 24 hours a day, seven days a week
