Nicolás Pérez Yánez, chief wine maker at leading Chilean wine maker Vina Santa Helena was in Ireland this week to present a tutored tasting hosted by BWG Wines and Spirits, Dublin’s luxurious Merrion Hotel to launch a new range of wines from their portfolio.

The Santa Helena range is exclusive to the BWG Group. Annual sales of this popular Chilean wine now exceeds 250,000 cases per annum.

“BWG Wines & Spirits has been the exclusive importer of Santa Helena wines for over 20 years,” said Liam Nolan, commercial manager for BWG Wines & Spirits. “We were delighted to welcome Nicolás to Ireland and look forward to continuing to work closely with Santa Helena in the future.

“Through our branded network of independent stores, we retail approximately €15 million in sales of Santa Helena wine per annum,” he said.

Yánez heads up Vina Santa Helena’s winemaking team in Chile. For the tasting, he presented three new Santa Helena portfolio wines: Alpaca, Siglo de Oro and Seleccion del Directorio, the Reserva range. All three were very well received.

“We have seen significant increases in the quality of the wines produced by Santa Helena and with that in mind, have extended our portfolio this year to include new reserve and premium ranges,” Nolan added.

Santa Helena is part of the VSPT Wine Group, which is one of the largest and most prestigious wine groups in Chile, exporting its exceptional portfolio to over 50 countries worldwide. Santa Helena’s winemaking history dates back to the 1940s when it was established in the Central Valley region, an area which offers unique and favourable conditions for grape growing.

In recent years Santa Helena has renewed its emphasis on winemaking, producing excellent wines in the distinctive Chilean style. Santa Helena’s parent company VSPT were nominated as Green Company of the Year by Drinks Business 2016.
