BWG Foods has been awarded an exclusive contract to supply the ParcMarket at Center Parcs Longford Forest.

Currently under construction, the €233m Center Parcs forest resort is expected to open this summer, and will include its own supermarket, ParcMarket.

The three year contract awarded to BWG Foods is valued at approximately €2 million per annum and includes an option to extend to five years.

The move will see BWG Foods supply fresh food, ambient grocery, frozen and chilled products and alcohol to the supermarket, with Center Parcs set to benefit from BWG Foods’ award-winning distribution network, category management resources, store operations support and fresh-food advisory.

Separately, BWG Foodservice has also won a contract to supply poultry and other meats to the various restaurants throughout Center Parcs Longford Forest. BWG Foodservice will source these products through its partnership with Irish company, Heaney Meats. This three year contract with BWG Foodservice and Heaney Meats is valued at approximately €500,000 per annum.

Describing the contract win as “a significant and unique addition to our business”, Alex Banahan, key accounts director, BWG Foods, said: “Our ability to deliver cost competitiveness through our consolidated supply network, our proven partnership model, our willingness to understand our customer’s needs and our ability to deliver workable solutions were all key factors in securing this deal. Being at the forefront of wholesale distribution in Ireland, we believe we are the perfect partners to support Center Parcs on its first venture into Ireland.”

Meanwhile, Martin Dalby, CEO of Center Parcs Longford Forest said it is “a pleasure” to award the contract to BWG. “This brings to over €12 million the total value of contracts we have awarded to food and beverage suppliers in Ireland and reaffirms our commitment to supporting Irish businesses,” Dalby said.

The 5,000 sq ft ParcMarket will be located in the heart of the resort and has been meticulously designed to cater for the needs of families on a short break. The supermarket, which will place a heavy emphasis on fresh and healthy foods, will feature a full range of in-store departments including a hot and cold deli, a full off-licence, and a selection of other sub-departments.
