BWG Foods has enjoyed a clean sweep across its retail brands with the announcement of this year’s Irish Sponsorship Awards category shortlists. All five retail brands – Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis and XL – have been nominated in this year’s awards.

The Irish Sponsorship Awards recognise and reward the brands, rightsholders, agencies, and media owners, who play a critical role in the delivery of world-class sponsorship programmes executed in Ireland.

Mace’s groundbreaking and long-standing association with Brand Ambassador and Ireland rugby captain Johnny Sexton sees the local community retail brand shortlisted for Best Use of Social Media award. This is for the ‘Mace Jokes with Johnny’ campaign, which ran at the end of last year and in January this year.

Eurospar has been shortlisted in two categories; Best Arts & Cultural Sponsorship and Best Societal Sponsorship for its sponsorship of Junk Kouture, the fashion competition for post-primary school students, where participants design, create and model fashion, made from recycled items.

Londis is nominated for Best TV Broadcast Sponsorship for Ireland’s Fittest Family on RTÉ One. Londis won this category last year and are seeking an elusive two-in-a-row.

XL is shortlisted in two categories; Best Entertainment & Event Sponsorship and Best Grass Roots Sponsorship categories for its sponsorship of the Marty Party, which is renowned sports commentator Marty Morrissey’s very entertaining stage show.

Spar is shortlisted in a number of categories including Best Societal Sponsorship and the Best Sports Team or Athlete Sponsorship for its partnerships with Olympic Gold Medallist and Spar Brand Ambassador Kellie Harrington and Ireland’s fastest man, Israel Olatunde.  Projects include the Spar Community Fund and the Spar College Fund.

Launched in 2012, the Irish Sponsorship Awards recognise and reward the brands, rightsholders, agencies, and media owners, who play a critical role in the delivery of world-class sponsorship programmes executed in Ireland. The awards will take place on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Dublin.
