BWG Foods has recently announced the opening of four new foodservice locations across Ireland through its O’Briens Café, Abrakebabra, Bagel Factory and Oasis of Taste Food Hall portfolio, creating more than 100 jobs.

The expansion includes a new Oasis of Taste Food Hall at Citywest Shopping Centre, alongside three O’Briens Café and Bagel Factory locations due to open in Carlow Town, Smithfield in Dublin and Limerick City by the end of the year.

The Citywest opening marks the group’s fourth Oasis of Taste Food Hall in Dublin. The format brings together O’Briens Café, Bagel Factory and Abrakebabra offerings under one roof, providing a range of foodservice options for customers.

The latest openings form part of BWG’s wider foodservice growth strategy, which is focused on identifying franchise opportunities in strong local and secondary locations.

According to BWG, the group is targeting areas with growing populations, established commuter catchments and local destination centres that attract high levels of footfall.

Franchise growth

BWG is also seeking opportunities to partner with local entrepreneurs operating existing foodservice sites, with the franchise model offering access to the established brand recognition, marketing support and customer base of its QSR portfolio.

Trading across the O’Briens Café, Abrakebabra, Bagel Factory and Oasis of Taste businesses is currently growing year-on-year, with annual sales projected to exceed €50m.

The group said the four new locations are expected to create approximately 100 jobs, while the wider franchised network currently employs more than 1,200 people nationwide.

The expansion supports BWG’s ambition to add 25 new locations by 2030, alongside its existing network of more than 50 franchisee partners.

Building the QSR business

The announcement follows BWG’s acquisition earlier this year of the O’Briens Café, Abrakebabra, Bagel Factory and Oasis of Taste Food Hall brands.

The acquisition marked BWG’s entry into the quick service restaurant sector, adding a 72-location estate to a wider business that already includes more than 1,000 Spar, Eurospar, Londis, Mace and XL stores across Ireland.

Michael Collins, chief wholesale and logistics officer at BWG, said the group identified an opportunity to build scale in the foodservice sector through the acquisition.

“When we acquired these brands, we saw a clear opportunity to build scale in a fast-growing part of Irish foodservice,” Collins said.

He added: “The portfolio brings together quick service restaurant brands with strong customer recognition, proven franchise relationships and a footprint across the types of locations where quality, convenience, value and familiarity really matter.”

BWG said it will continue to explore opportunities to expand the portfolio through new locations and partnerships with local franchise operators.
