The new Irish Discounter, BuyLo opened its doors in Killarney, Co Kerry just in time for the October Bank Holiday weekend. Store management reported brisk trading in the first few days of trading, with the ‘Top Ten’ most popular items among shoppers featuring as follows:

1. 2 Litre Coke
2. Kellogg’s Cornflakes (500g)
3. Drummer Firelighters (80’s size pack)
4. Cadbury’s Roses Tin (975g)
5. Gold Seal Granulated Sugar (1kg)
6. Halloween Confectionery & Decorations
7. Cushion Soft White Toilet Roll (6’s)
8. Brennan’s Sliced Pan (800g)
9. Splash Kitchen Towel (4 pack)
10. Daz Regular Washing Powder (90 scoop, 6.12kg)

The BuyLo model, created by the Barry Group is Ireland’s answer to rival German discounters, offering an Irish solution to discount retailing, with well-known brands of food and non-food household items at significantly discounted prices. There are now four BuyLo stores currently operating in Ireland – Ashbourne, Co. Meath, Tralee, Co. Kerry, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, and the newest in Killarney. There are plans to open a further three BuyLo stores in Waterford, Shannon and Dublin by the end of November.
