As Beam remains focused on the fast-growing Irish Whiskey category, this is the second group of graduates that it has selected through the IBEC Export Orientation Programme (EOP) and it has increased the number of Irish graduates employed through the scheme from five last year to nine in 2013.

The graduates, Niamh Buckley, Noelle Hegarty, Rob Mullane (Cork), Keeva Bentham, Rob Irwin, Stella Lacken (Dublin), Mairead Heavey (Meath), Megan Hennessy (Tipperary) and Matthew Norman (Wicklow) will each be based in a major US city that Beam has targeted for growth of its Irish Whiskey portfolio.

The destination cities include New York, Chicago, Boston, Austin, Dallas, Indianapolis, New Jersey and Philadelphia.
The graduates are currently attending an intensive 10-day induction course at the Kilbeggan Institute of Irish Whiskey Excellence at the Kilbeggan Distillery in Co Westmeath.

At the 256 year-old distillery, the graduates will be fully immersed in the whiskey-making process and tutored on how to market Irish whiskey to an overseas audience. They’ll work with the Kilbeggan distilling team on every aspect of whiskey production from distillation to maturation ensuring that they obtain a 360-degree understanding of the products they’ll be promoting. In addition, they’ll receive presentation training and whiskey master class training.

Beam’s Irish Whiskey Global Brand Ambassador John Cashman commented, “The EOP programmes gives us access to ambitious and talented young Irish graduates. In 2012 our EOP Ambassador programme was incredibly successful in delivering tangible business results in a number of key US cities.  As a result of this success, we’ve increased the number of graduates for 2013 and there is potential to add additional graduates later in the year”.

The graduates will be supported by Beam’s US marketing and distribution infrastructure and the experience they garner will produce skilled marketers capable of supporting the country’s export led recovery, he added.
