Aldi’s nationwide expansion has continued with the opening of its new store in Cabra, Co. Dublin, creating 30 new permanent jobs in the local area.

Located in Hamilton Gardens in Cabra, the local team will be led by store manager Jamie Stephens.  The new store is Aldi’s 26th to open in County Dublin, with the retailer now operating 157 stores around Ireland.

Dublin investment

Last year Aldi announced an ambitious plan to expand its store network in Dublin to include €73 million investment in 11 new stores in the county over the next five years. The new stores will see the creation of 350 full-time permanent jobs and 550 construction jobs over the period.

With 26 stores now in the capital, Aldi has made a capital investment of almost €187 million in Dublin over the past 20 years, since opening its first Irish store in Parnell Street in 1999. The retailer currently employs 673 people in Dublin with a €20.3 million total salary spend across its 26 stores in the county.

Working with 81 local producers, Aldi spent €193 million with these Dublin based suppliers in 2021.

Additionally, Aldi will invest almost €2.1 million in Dublin as part of its Project Fresh initiative. Aldi Project Fresh stores focus on reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, using sustainable energy supply and saving CO2 emissions. Aldi has invested almost €73 million across the country to revamp the design and energy efficiency credentials of its store network as part of the Project Fresh store upgrades, which have been taking place since 2016.

“This new €2.8 million store in Cabra is the latest step in Aldi’s expansion programme and I’m delighted to open our 26th store in Dublin today. This new store, and the 30 new jobs created, will support our ambition to deliver value to the people of Ireland at the locations most convenient to them,” said store manager Jamie Stephens.

Store details

The spacious new 1,219sq m store features Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh layout and features wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings. Aldi shoppers will be able to make use of 66 car parking spaces and 4 electric vehicle charging spaces. As well as this, there will be 10 bike parking spaces outside the Aldi store.

The store has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible, powered by 100% green electricity and featuring solar panels on the roof of the store that will contribute towards the overall electrical demand for the store – powering items such as energy saving lights and Aldi’s new chiller fridges. It also features Aldi’s new Electronic Shelf Labels in store in place of traditional paper price labels, meaning that stock or price changes can easily and quickly be communicated to customers.

The Cabra store opening hours are: Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 22:00; and Saturday to Sunday: 09:00 – 21:00.

The retailer is actively recruiting now; find out more at www.ALDIrecruitment.ie.
