Alcohol prices continue to fall

September’s off-trade prices for alcohol were down by 0.3 per cent compared to August this year and by 2.8 per cent compared to September 2010.

Price decreases were recorded for Spirits (1.9 per cent) and Beer (0.8 per cent) compared to August while a price increase was recorded for Wine & Cider (up 0.6 per cent).

Over the year to September off-trade prices for Spirits were down 5.4 per cent while they were down 1.7 per cent for Wine & Cider and by three per cent for Beer.

Generally, alcohol prices overall remained on a par with those in August while they were down by one per cent compared to September 2010 and by 0.4 per cent over the three-month period to September when compared with the previous three-month period to June.

However on-trade Wine & Cider prices rose 0.3 per cent in September over August while a rise of 0.2 per cent was recorded for Beer and for Spirits.

Since September 2010 the on-trade price of Beer has fallen 0.3 per cent while a fall of 0.6 per cent was recorded for Wine & Ciders.

Soft Drinks & MIneral Water prices fell by 0.5 per cent while on-trade Spirits prices remained on a par with September last year.
Consumer prices in general rose 0.3 per cent in September compared to August 2011.
