Concluding its milestone 20th year in business, Gala Retail has generously donated its final #GalaGift of 2018 to the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation.

Ahead of the Christmas period, Gala Retail donated €10,000 to the charity, which provides direct funding to provide home nursing care to families of children up to the age of five who suffer severe intellectual and physical developmental delay, and also end of life care to all children up to the age of five.

Gala’s €10,000 donation will give Jack and Jill families the ‘gift of time’, funding an incredible additional 625 hours of Jack & Jill home care in 2019. Providing both nursing care and respite, Gala’s gift will enable families to do the things that most people take for granted like getting a night’s sleep or doing the grocery shopping.

This surprise donation was warmly welcomed by the charity on behalf of all of 340 children under its wing.

“Gala Retail has a long history of supporting the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation and this donation will make a significant difference and is a real gift of time for our families around the country,” said Carmel Doyle, Interim CEO, Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation.

“To Gary, the team at Gala Retail and Gala retailers across Ireland, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and congratulate Gala on 20 years in business,” she added.

In total, Gala Retail has gifted thousands of products, holidays, cars, cash and donations to its shoppers and communities to mark its 20th year in business.  Three primary schools benefitted from a collective €20,000 donation earlier in the year thanks to #GalaGiftsforSchools and Gala’s latest shopper promotion gave away instant wins and Toyota Aygo cars to shoppers, with a prize fund of over €300,000.

Describing one of the group’s “proudest achievements” as being how it has continuously ‘given back’, Gary Desmond, CEO of Gala Retail said “Gala’s success lies in the support of our communities and loyal shoppers who have made the Gala brand what it is today.

“Gala Retail and our stores have supported local and national charities for the past 20 years,” he added, “and we felt that it would be fitting to conclude our 20th year anniversary celebrations by donating €10,000 to the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation – a charity that delivers an incredible service to families across Ireland.”

Rounding off a 20th anniversary year that has been “incredible and very memorable”, on behalf of the group, Desmond thanked “every shopper, supplier, Gala store and friend of Gala who has played a role in helping the Group to celebrate its 20th year” and extended the group’s best wishes to all for the year ahead.
