Pre-planning application submitted for Naas Shopping Centre

The Roche Group has submitted a pre-planning application to Kildare County Council for Naas Shopping Centre, which had previously become a Nama managed property after failing to open as planned back in 2009.
The National Asset Management Agency (Nama) sold the shopping centre to the Roche Group last year and now the new owner says the centre is on track with its original timelines to complete and fit out the site by 2022.
According to the company, the development has attracted interest from major retail brands, some of whom talks are currently underway with. Several large repair and maintenance projects have also been completed in recent weeks.
The development is expected to have a supermarket anchor on the ground floor with a range of mixed-use occupiers. Healthcare, office and educational uses will be housed on the upper floors, with approximately 70 apartment units for senior living and planning permission for 750 car parking spaces.
The Irish Times reports development works are expected to cost circa €10 million and the centre will employ 150 construction workers at its height. Meanwhile, 700 jobs are expected to be created once opened.
The multimillion euro shopping centre situated in the town centre was developed by building company Marshalsea and was originally scheduled to open in Christmas 2009 but never did. After becoming a Nama managed property, receiver Duff & Phelps was appointed to find a buyer. The site went on sale with a guide price of €4.8 million in 2019 (a fraction of the construction cost) and was bought last year by the Roche Group.
