Dealz has paid tribute to the generosity of its customers who, despite the global pandemic, helped the company beat last year’s fundraising total to raise over €77,000 for its charity partner, Make-A-Wish Ireland.

The 2020 figure stands at €77,010.72, a 14% increase on the amount raised during 2019.

The money was raised through a series of events across its 70-plus stores in Ireland, such as raffles, fancy dress days, pyjama days and sponsored runs. One store even staged a cycleathon, while a team member at another dressed up as a dinosaur.

As a mark of appreciation, the Dealz stores that raised the most money chose a team member to take part in a parachute jump that is currently scheduled for April, restrictions permitting.

Dealz country manager of retail, Olivia McLoughlin, who will also be taking part in the parachute jump, said the kindness of the retailer’s customers never ceases to amaze her.

“To raise over €77,000 during one of the most challenging years on record is truly a remarkable achievement and could not have been possible without the generosity of our brilliant customers,” she said.

“I also want to give a well-deserved shout-out to our Dealz colleagues who really embraced this fundraising initiative and went above and beyond to raise an incredible amount of money to beat the previous year.

“We’re proud to be a part of the communities we serve, and the message is clear – great things can happen when we work together with our customers,” McLoughlin added.

Dealz has supported Make-A-Wish since 2011. Since then, staff have been committed to raising funds to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions and to bring hope, strength and happiness.

Since partnering with Make-A-Wish, Dealz has raised close to half a million euros. Make-A-Wish fundraising officer, Alicia Finan, said the support the charity has received from Dealz over the past decade is greatly appreciated.

“We are so thankful for the ongoing support from the teams throughout the Dealz store network in Ireland and of course their customers as well,” Finan said. “The kindness and generosity of people is humbling, and this support will help us continue to grant wishes to some of the bravest children you will ever meet.”
