Musgrave Retail Partners has struck a deal with Alosra, a high-end supermarket chain based in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The deal was one of several to emerge from the Marketplace International Conference in Dublin earlier this month.

Under the terms of the agreement, Musgrave will supply a selection of products from its SuperValu and Musgrave Excellence own brand ranges. A number of Irish brands including products from its Food Academy programme will also be introduced. Musgrave said the deal forms part of its strategy to promote Irish food abroad.

Chris Martin, Musgrave CEO, hailed the efforts of Bord Bia in facilitating the deal.

“Global demand for Irish produce continues to grow,” he said, “thanks to its outstanding quality and the dedicated efforts of Bord Bia. This demand is what led to our latest export agreement with Alosra. Musgrave is proud to support long-standing Irish producers and suppliers and enable small brands to access global markets.”

Jaffar Al Asfoor, who oversees Alosra on behalf of its parent company BMMI, said Ireland and Alosra already have a long and fruitful working relationship. “Many members of our team trained in Ireland,” he said, “and we have always been inspired by how passionate the Irish people are about their heritage and their food.

“With Musgrave,” Asfoor said, “we have found a partner that we have perfect synergy with and we decided this would be a great opportunity for Ireland to come to Bahrain.”

The Alosra team was in attendance at Marketplace International in Dublin, a unique, invitation-only event that brings together top Irish food and drink exporters and international trade buyers.  More big announcements are expected to come out of this unique event, so watch this space.
