“Independents’ Day” set to boost local trade in NI
50 shops are celebrating "Independents' Day" this weekend, aiming to promote their town centres and retail communities.

If you want something done right, you’ve got to do it for yourself. That might well be the inspiration behind Independents’ Day, an initiative taking place this week in Armagh, Banbridge, Lurgan and Portadown this weekend, in which more than 50 local shops and retailers will offer discounted goods.
Newsletter.co.uk reports that the project, supported by the local Chambers of Commerce and the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Association, aims to help drive footall and increase trading, ultomately encouraging consumers to “shop local.”
“Independent retailers and consumer-facing businesses are the lifeblood of our local retail centre,” said Darryn Causby, Lord Mayor of the Borough Council, “adding social and commercial value to the places where we work, live and enjoy.
“Statistics show that for every £1 spent with a local independent business, between 50p and 70p circulates back in to the local economy,” Causby added, “so it’s vital that we do all we can to drive home the shop local messae, to help town and city centres enjoy higher footfall, longer consumer dwell time and lower vacancy rates.”
The Lord Mayor said he wanted to encourage consumers to visit their town centres this Saturday, July 4th, to avail of the discount offers and enjoy the family activities that would be taking place in and around the area.
