To their credit, the retailers have responded with aplomb, as reflected last night with Musgrave Group being named the 2015 NACS Insight European Sustainability Retailer of the Year Award, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company.

The awards recognises Musgrave, parent company of retailer brands such as Super Valu, Centra, Londis, Mace, Daybreak and more, for its leadership in sustainable resource strategies and inspiring other businesses to implement sustainability initiatives of their own. In practical terms, this translates as efforts to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, minimise energy use and expand use of renewable energy.  The company says that through implementation of these policies, Musgrave has developed a business model that “enriches the lives of its customers” by encouraging healthier living.

“We are delighted to receive this international recognition for our sustainability strategy,” said Chris Martin, Chris Martin, Musgrave Group CEO. “Supporting local communities is in our DNA.  Shopping is about more than just getting the products you need. It is about community, social interaction and contributing to the local economy.  By supporting the social, economic and environmental ‘health’ of communities we operate in, we also aim to improve the quality of our customers’ lives.”

The award was presented during the second NACS Insight Convenience Summit – Europe, which brings together convenience and fuel retailing industry professionals from around the world to discuss ideas and gain new connections.
