The award was announced in front of more than 800 members of the global wine industry at the International Wine Challenge awards dinner in London in September. The winner was selected by a judging panel of more than 370 winemakers, merchants and writers from around the world.

In addition to the prestigious award, all 16 wines entered by the Wolf Blass winemaking team won awards, including two golds for the Black Label 2004 and the Gold Label Barossa Shiraz 2005.
