3.4% increase in consumer prices in licensed premises

Consumer prices in licensed premises rose by 3.4% in August when compared with August 2012 according to the most recent CSO figures.

This comprised an increase of 3.2% in spirits, 3.0% for wine, 3.7% for beer and 1.6% for soft drinks & mineral water.

Over the course of the month of August prices in licensed premises rose 0.1% when compared with the previous month, July 2013. This comprised a 0.1% rise in the price of spirits, wine, soft drinks & mineral water while beer level-pegged on the previous month’s figure.

The price of alcohol in supermarkets & off-licences rose by 7.9% in August compared to August 2012. This comprised 7.6% rise in spirits prices, 8.6% in Wine prices and 6.3% in beer prices.
Over the course of the month, the price of off-trade alcohol fell by 1.4% when compared with July 2013. This comprised a 2.1% decrease in spirits prices, a 1.6% fall in wine prices and a 0.8% fall in beer prices.

Prices for Alcohol overall rose 4.9% to August compared with August 2012 while they fell 0.4% compared to July 2013. Over the three-month period, Alcohol prices rose 0.1%.

Nightclub admission prices were down by 1.3% in August compared with August 2012 while they were down by 0.7% compared to July 2013.
