XL’s annual retailer conference has taken place in Kilkenny, with the group marking its 20th anniversary. The company recorded sales in 2016 of €315m, a 5% increase on the previous year’s importance, and announced plans to grow sales to more than €330m per year.

XL’s conference was also the venue for the announcement of the new XL Store Upgrade Programme, representing more than €1m investment in its network over the next 12 months. The objective, naturally, is to significantly enhance the in-store experience.

“The XL brand has achieved significant growth in recent years,” said John Moane, MD of BWG Foods Wholesale, at the event. “It has outperformed the market year after year, while consistently expanding our nationwide footprint.”

After 20 years in Ireland, XL currently operates 250 stores nationwide, providing employment to almost 2,500 people. “Looking forward,” Moane said, “we see a great opportunity to continue to enhance our store network, attracting new retailers who wish to retain their independence but have the backing of an experienced retail group.”
