Spar springs into summer with FitLive sponsorship
Families can overhaul their diet and fitness levels with some of Ireland’s best known personalities with free programme

In partnership with Spar, FitLive.ie, Ireland’s fitness hub, is calling on families who want to improve their fitness to take part in an eight week celebrity-studded programme. The initiative featuring household names, Al Porter, Karl Henry, Derval O’Rourke and Mick Clohisey, starts from 22 May.
Those who sign up for the free programme will benefit from exercise tips, weekly workouts and running plans from Karl Henry as he trains Al Porter, one of Ireland’s hottest comedic talents, ahead of the Spar FitLive Run Series this summer. Derval O’Rourke will provide food tips and recipes and readers can follow Al’s progress on FitLive.ie and in Health and Living magazine every Monday with the Irish Independent.
After the eight week programme, readers can try out their new found fitness at the Spar FitLive series comprising both a 5km and 10km run in the Phoenix Park, with a fun festival atmosphere with live music and street traders taking place on Saturday, 15 July. Those living in Cork can also put their fitness levels to the test in the second leg of the Spar FitLive series at the Cork Airport Runway 5km run on Friday, 17 November.
Colin Donnelly, Spar sales director, said that following Spar’s long heritage in athletics sponsorship, the Fitlive programme is “a natural fit for our brand. Health and wellbeing is a big focus for Spar, having just launched our Better Choices initiative last year,” Donnelly added, “and we believe the Spar FitLive Series is another great initiative for families because it helps to promote a healthy lifestyle in the home and community.”
Those interested can take part by registering on FitLive.ie. Early bird tickets for the Spar FitLive series are also available from €15 at https://events.fitlive.ie/spar-fitlive-run-series-Dublin. This entry fee includes a goodie bag; refreshments and fruit, race chip timing, crossing line video and a special T-shirt.
