It seems to me that consumers want it every way - they want large stores, small stores, convenience stores, stand alone butchers and fruit & veg stores, discounters and high-end food emporiums. And they want them all on their doorsteps. Sorry not possible. Man cannot survive on bread alone and neither can a retailer survive on the sale of bread or milk alone! Consumers can vote with their feet now but they may find that they are walking twice as far in the future for their basic groceries.
