The potential chaos and damage caused by ex-Hurricane Ophelia, as well as the risk to individuals’ safety, has prompted businesses across the country to close their doors for the day.

An Ibec statement late last night urged all businesses to “minimise the movement of employees”, adding that safety should be of utmost priority.

Along with all schools, colleges and creches, the retailers that have closed their doors include:

  • Dunnes Stores
  • Brown Thomas
  • Fallon & Byrne
  • O’Briens Fine Wines
  • Arnotts
  • Carrickmines Retail Park
  • SuperValu
  • Tesco
  • Lidl
  • Applegreen
  • Musgrave Marketplace

As the storm progresses across Ireland, the country is expected to come to a standstill. Authorities have recommended against any and all unneccesary travel while the severe weather warning Red is in action.
