Over 165 people including a host of Londis retailers, their family and friends are set to climb Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil in Co. Kerry on 27 May in order to raise money and awareness for mental health charity, Pieta House.

Former Irish soccer international Paul McGrath was on hand recently to lend his support for the launch of ‘Climb for Joy’ and acknowledged the vital work Pieta House carries out each day in local communities across Ireland by providing free and therapuetic care for people who are in suicidal distress and those with mental health issues.

Londis began its partnership with Pieta House in 2016 when over 30 retailers put their fears aside and undertook parachute jumps for the Londis ‘Jump for Joy’ event last May at The Irish Parachute Club, in Clonbullogue, Co Offaly. The initiative raised over €35,000 for Pieta House.

Following that success, even more Londis retailers and their family and friends are getting involved this year and they are all set to embark on the challenging climb of Carrauntoohil this month, which will surely be a tough but rewarding experience.

Speaking about these initiatives, Conor Hayes, Londis sales director said: “Londis Jump for Joy was really exciting as so many stores within Londis signed up to raise money and do the jump. We hope to create even more of a buzz with Climb for Joy this month.”

Londis has also announced that it has chosen Pieta House as the group’s official charity partner. Londis has pledged to donate 1c to Pieta House on every sale of selected Londis own label products.

Hayes said the group’s goal was two-fold; to raise awareness of Pieta House’s services and “fundraise as much money as possible”.

Senator Joan Freeman, founder of Pieta House thanked the retailer for its support, stating: “Londis is making a real difference to those with mental health issues through this partnership.”

Pieta house is located in nine towns around the country; Ballyfermot, Lucan, Finglas, Cork, Tralee, Limerick, Roscrea, Waterford and Tuam and the charity’s goal is to have a Pieta House within 100kms of every person in Ireland.
