Business in the Community Ireland, which promotes responsible practices among Irish businesses, has published its latest Business Impact Map for 2017, which outlines the charitable efforts of the organisation’s members. Among retail and FMCG companies, almost €2m was given in donations, along with a further €1.8m raised by staff, and more than €4m in donations-in-kind.

BITC calculates that these companies – including Lidl, Tesco and Premier Lotteries – volunteered more than 12,000 hours to a range of good causes.

“Employees want to work for companies that support their efforts,” said Tomás Sercovich, BITC CEO, “and companies know that tackling social issues can drive employee engagement and also attract the best talent.”

In total, 57 BITC members donated more than €28m to good causes throughout the year. Among the BITC members are organisations such as RTÉ, Accenture, Roadbridge, IBM, Permanent TSB and more.
