The 2017 Small Business Act Fact Sheet for Ireland has been published, which portrays a positive outlook for Ireland’s small business profile. Minister of State for Trade, Employment and Business, Pat Breen, welcomed the publication, which coincides with the SME Assembly in Tallinn taking place this week.

The SBA Fact Sheet, produced annually with a view to understanding recent trends and national policies, shows that Ireland’s SBA profile is competitive, and improves on last year’s result.

“I am pleased to see positive results for Ireland again this year,” Breen said. “Our rankings have been improving since the publication of Ireland’s first-ever National Entrepreneurship Policy Statement in 2014. The statement sets out a plan until 2020, and the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation will shortly publish a mid-term review outlining what has been achieved to date.

The fact sheet outlines how Ireland is top performer in the EU. Another measure where Ireland scores well is the percentage of public contracts being secured abroad by SMEs. “This is at 17.2%, vastly higher than the EU average of 2.6%.”

During 2016 and the first quarter of 2017, Ireland implemented a high number of relevant policy measures, and announced three further measures that will improve conditions for small businesses.
