Iceland has announced it is to open two stores in Munster creating 44 new jobs. The new stores are located on the Cork Road Waterford and in Midleton town and will create a minimum of 22 jobs for each store. Iceland Midleton opens on 25 November and Iceland Waterford opens on 2 December both in time for the Christmas rush.

While Iceland is known for its frozen food selection, the chain states it also offers shoppers savings on over 450 branded grocery and chilled products. The supermarket chain is particularly famous for its Christmas Party range, an imaginative variety of finger food perfect for entertaining during the festive season.

In a press statement, the retailer adds  shopping with Iceland has never been more convenient as new Munster customers can enjoy a free home delivery service on purchases of €30 or more. Shoppers simply pick out their items and on arrival at the till let their cashier know they would like to avail of Iceland’s unique delivery option, with their shopping then delivered at a time that suits them.

The Munster additions mark Iceland’s seventh and eighth supermarkets in Ireland, part of a master plan to expand the business here over the next five years, with more sites opening nationwide.

Colm Barry, store manager of Iceland Waterford and Mush Hussain, store manager of Iceland Midleton both expressed their excitement at the prospect of trading from the new stores. Ron Metcalfe managing director of Iceland Ireland said: “We are delighted to be opening in both towns and serve the local communities of Midleton and Waterford, I would like to welcome all our customers to our new stores and wish staff all the very best.”
