Donegal retailer wins Costcutter Supermarket of the Year Award

Doherty’s from Carndonagh, Co. Donegal was named as the Costcutter Supermarket of the Year at the group’s annual awards on 2 September.

According to the judges, Doherty’s high standards and their passion for their business made them stand out. They said: “This store has maintained consistently high levels of standards in retail excellence, hygiene and customer service which has brought many accolades in the past number of years and is a testament to the hard work and vision of a retailer who is so passionate about his business.  A family run store, retaining this award this year is a magnificent achievement considering the level of competition.”

Other award winners on the night included Massey’s Costcutter in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin winning the Costcutter Foodmarket of the Year category for the fourth year running. Massey’s also took home the Off-Licence Store of the Year Award.

Other successful stores included Amber Oil in Tipperary which won the Best Food to Go and Forecourt of the Year Awards.

Eugene Carney, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo won the Foodmarket Wine Store of the Year; Tom Liddy, Roslevin, Ennis won the Fresh Produce Award and John Moran from Dingle came away with the Best Customer Service Award.

Jim Barry, managing director of the Barry Group was on hand to present the winners with their awards, which took place at The Heritage Hotel, Kilenard, Co. Laois.
