BWG Group has completed the purchase of Morris Brothers’ wholesale grocery business for an undisclosed sum.
Established in 1952, Morris Brothers is a very successful family run wholesale and retail grocery company, headquartered in Convoy, Co. Donegal, with annual revenues of approximately €30m. The company services over 450 retail businesses across the North West of Ireland.
The Co Donegal company has approximately 30 employees and services 20 Gala shops and 10 Checkout stores in addition to a variety of wholesale and catering customers.
The acquisition of Morris Brothers’ business will strengthen BWG’s existing wholesale operations, especially in the Donegal, Sligo, Cavan, Mayo and Roscommon region and will provide the enlarged Group with increased buying power and additional routes to local markets.
Commenting on the acquisition, Leo Crawford, Group Chief Executive, BWG Group, said: “Morris Brothers is an excellent business with over 60 years experience in the grocery trade. They share our passion for high standards of service and delivery and the business and management team will make an excellent addition to BWG”.
Fintan Morris, Director, Morris Brothers, said: “We are delighted to be part of BWG and we will be working closely with our new colleagues to sustain continued growth in our business. We look forward to realising the many benefits that will flow from being part of an ambitious group and one of the leading innovators in grocery wholesaling and retailing”.
BWG's last acquisition was in 2008 when the company acquired Mangans Wholesale. Morris Brothers is a similar type of business, and although on a smaller scale is reported to be profitable.
